DESCRIPTION

This is an out-and-back run up the old Virginia and Truckee Railroad grade for a total of 6 miles (from Fleet Feet) or 4 miles (from the trailhead).

Your views will be to the east across Eagle Valley, Carson City, and the Comstock and to the south across Carson Valley, even seeing the northern mountains of Yosemite Park on clear days.

Only a small section of this run is OK for dogs. Otherwise, we're far too close to Highway 395 at one end and busy streets at the other.

Tim lets us use the restroom in Fleet Feet when we run here as a club. There are a couple fo rocky outcroppings along the run which will suffice, too.

The run from Fleet Feet includes 2 miles of asphalt/concrete.

We meet at the new Fleet Feet store on the north side of Carson City. From South Lake Tahoe, take US Hwy 50 down to Carson, turn left onto US Hwy 395 and travel all the way through town. You'll have to make a left across 395 and it is your choice to use the turning lane for the McDonalds or to continue up to College Parkway and make your left there. Either way, Fleet Feet is in the southwest corner. That's BEHIND AND LEFT of McDonalds, if you entered that way.

If our instructions indicate "Meet at the trailhead" then here's how to get there: Turn WEST off of Hwy 395 onto College Parkway (towards Albertsons). Turn RIGHT onto Ormsby Blvd. Turn LEFT into Combs Canyon Rd. Turn RIGHT at the sign for the Jack C. Davis Observatory sign and park.
