| Fields of wildflowers at your feet and Caples Lake far below |
Running down to Winnemucca Lake |
DESCRIPTION
Loop trails of varying 1 to 10 mile distances and beyond curl around the lakes below
Round Top Mountain. A loop might include Winnemucca Lake, Round Top Lake, Fourth of July Lake,
and the Lost Mine. You can also choose to make it a 4-mile, one-way trip by leaving a car
at Carson Pass before driving down to Woods Lake. The trip back up to the Pass will include Round Top, Winnemucca Lake,
and Frog Lake.
The wildflowers near Winnemucca Lake are arguably the finest in the Sierra Nevada
and usually peak in August.

Dogs are OK on this one but portions of the trail are extremely crowded on weekends.
|
| |
Lots of woods, shrubs, and rocks serve as your facilities.
|
| |
Don't forget your camera for this one! Bug repellant is also appreciated.

DIRECTIONS
Take SR 88 towards Kirkwood and look for the Woods Lake Campground turnoff, 1.7 miles west of Carson Pass
(and 3.2 miles east of Caple Lake Dam). The campground road winds for about two miles to Woods Lake. Park as close
to the lake as you can.
We usually carpool from Lira's Market.
